The orrery is inspired by an 1882 teaching orrery, or mechanical model of the solar system. Powered by a model steam engine, we wanted to have the engine which drove the industrial revolution driving a mechanical model of the solar system, in a sense to have 'machine thinking' fold back on itself.
Created in collaboration with my husband and creative partner Will Francis. (In the background is Objectivity, a replica of a Galilean telescope I made in Italy). |
